GRL recap and your chance to play along

Last week I went down to the GayRomLit Retreat in Portsmouth, Virginia where nearly 500 LGBT writers and readers got together for four days of communing over our shared love of LGBT romance.

I was in a bit of a funk heading into that week. Sometimes we writers get to believing that because we’re not as popular as so-and-so that what we write doesn’t have value at all. In that headspace, you might think that going to a convention with some of the most popular writers in my genre would be the worst thing I could do, but what happened was that I got to meet so many people who’ve read and enjoyed my books that I was reminded why I write in the first place.

I write books I want to read, and fortunately I’m not alone in this world. I’m not ubiquitous—not every reader is me—but I’m not unique either. What touched me the most were the people who talked about the books I love that aren’t super popular, like Predestination Unknown and You, Me & Her. I know people like Aftercare (and I’m glad) but all my children are special to me, and some of the ones that get less love are actually my favorites.

Here’s a picture of me at my table on the day of the signing (much thanks to Elisa for taking it because I never got around to taking any photos at all).

Now, I know not everyone is so lucky as to make it to GRL, but you can play along at home. I have three ebooks I’m giving away. Two of them include stories you may have read before (on my site or from Amazon), but one of them has two brand new stories not available anywhere else. Wild includes a fun dino porn parody (Interview with a T-Rex) and a hot psuedo-twincest story (Same Sex).

I also have three quizzes you can take. Find your perfect Tanya Chris book boyfriend or a story to match your kink. The quizzes are super fun and so many people end up with Aayan from Aftercare as their perfect book boyfriend that now I know why that book is so popular. You really love Aayan! Mine is Adam from Merge Ahead, in case you were wondering.

I gave away handmade scrunchies. I wish I could cyber them over to you but you’ll have to settle for a picture and the pattern so you can make one yourself: (sc around hair elastic, ch 4) – repeat until very very full, join w/ sl st to first sc.

Next year’s GRL is in Albuquerque, New Mexico, so definitely not in driving range (I checked and it’s 31 hours!). I don’t know if I’ll be there or not, but I’m really glad I went this year. I’m tired and drained but ready to rededicate myself to writing some new books.
